HEAR/HEAR is a bi-monthly reading series that features new work by NOW HEAR THIS! Writers-in-Residence and a special musical guest outside of the program. Our readings take place at The Supermarket, 268 Augusta Ave, Toronto. It's free and for all ages.
NOW HEAR THIS! is the literacy outreach arm of the Descant Arts & Letters Foundation. The program connects professional authors with community groups, students and aspiring writers in order to promote Canadian literature and encourage self-expression, critical thinking and empowerment through literacy education. Writers from the NOW HEAR THIS! program are featured at the HEAR/HEAR reading series.

These events are our way of thanking our authors for the hard work they do. We couldn't achieve our program goals with out them, and we want to promote their voices — like they promote the voices of the students they work with.
HEAR/HEAR events are an important part of our mandate — to promote Canadian writing and literature through a culture of self-expression, participation and inclusion. We know that public readings are a crucial forum through which authors connect with their community and expand their readership.
No, The Supermarket is restaurant and bar located at 268 Augusta Ave., half a block south of College. Since April 2011, we've made The Supermarket the home for our reading series. Our reading starts at 6:30pm but feel free to come for an early for dinner and drinks from their extensive menu.
